Once again it is hosted by the lovely Jo, from <a href="http://serendipitousstitching.blogspot.com">Serendipitous Stitching.</a> There is a blog entry each day for December 1 through 24. Pop over to Jo's blog for the participant list. My post is probably going in a bit early, because in my part of the world (Australia) we're a bit ahead of most other time zones. Also, please excuse the formatting. It's all over the place, due to the fact that I am using my phone, and I haven't lesrnt how to control the appearance.</p><p><br /></p><p>Our task this year is to show a Christmas or winter related item we have crafted, and to talk about Santa. I spend a lot of time crafting Christmas related items, so I have lots to show and talk about, but I will try to show some restraint. </p><p><br /></p><p>The picture I have chosen for this year is my Christmas Tree. Usually I put up in various areas of the house five large decorated Christmas trees: two hanging dowelling trees, one decorated with angels, the other with Santas; a 7 ft tall 1970s tree decorated with dark red and gold; and two 6 ft tall 1980s trees, one with red and white decorations, the other decorated with ornaments and beaded angels I have made and just a few which have been made for me. This year has been such a sad and disruptive year for me that I really didn't plan to decorate for Christmas, but somehow a few things emerged from their hiding spots, and one of them was my 'handcrafted' tree. I didn't actually make the tree, I have decorated it with my handcrafted items. I didn't count the beaded angels as I was hanging them, but there were a lot. Do enlarge the tree if you want to see my angels.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWfTRzTejrKlVFWEbv3Uf9Gf_exwaYjuR5ArSjaP0CphsmRjj63rcNY9MOclyCvCfqaFG1ptz2WuJ3yNSM4-R8c_5cRI3VWPxXxTQueFlHFxI1S0dvk4KHKBXUm9qsY1Y06Ngat_tO9QY1SO_JEeaPqw74QgX0jFb6fy1-m-w_W-1TW0J2x3JUTFOXEDg/s3743/20231128_192304.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3743" data-original-width="2293" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWfTRzTejrKlVFWEbv3Uf9Gf_exwaYjuR5ArSjaP0CphsmRjj63rcNY9MOclyCvCfqaFG1ptz2WuJ3yNSM4-R8c_5cRI3VWPxXxTQueFlHFxI1S0dvk4KHKBXUm9qsY1Y06Ngat_tO9QY1SO_JEeaPqw74QgX0jFb6fy1-m-w_W-1TW0J2x3JUTFOXEDg/s320/20231128_192304.jpg" width="196" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><p>I don't have any specific family traditions involving Santa, but I collect Santas, particularly old Santas. Really, any traditional Santa with a nice happy face (and without a red nose) is welcome to retire in my house. I don't know when my love of Santa developed, but my favourite childhood memories are of Christmas Eves. My 5 siblings and I would sing Christmas carols for ages after we had been sent to bed. I do recall being sent from the classroom as a not quite 5 year old when I casually announced to my classmates that Santa was a lovely fairy story, but he wasn't real. So, my love of and belief in Santa is something that has grown over time.</p><p><br /></p><p>I have some Santas who have spent over 40 years with me. My oldest Santa dates from the 1930s, though he has only been with me for the past 30 years. He is close to 60cm (2') tall, and filled with straw. He's a bit tatty, but then so am I, and I'm not quite as old as he is.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgokJzypGcXESSM4jRlJZxWJVjU9gAiv5oRLNyb0-QkheINcWVw01P827GPSQeLZz0-jGdXlXr1OPqpSjRe9XYAmJq6aB37vpG5XHXSD85KxJHOazjQbtjfUawyCaGjrraPGBqdG-pC-lxcAA7FAOk24yUEVQ840Yx2wj-hJC5F5mm9_VxtE3aldx4RDqQ/s3440/20231128_192443.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3440" data-original-width="1713" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgokJzypGcXESSM4jRlJZxWJVjU9gAiv5oRLNyb0-QkheINcWVw01P827GPSQeLZz0-jGdXlXr1OPqpSjRe9XYAmJq6aB37vpG5XHXSD85KxJHOazjQbtjfUawyCaGjrraPGBqdG-pC-lxcAA7FAOk24yUEVQ840Yx2wj-hJC5F5mm9_VxtE3aldx4RDqQ/s320/20231128_192443.jpg" width="159" /></a></div><p><br /></p><p>My biggest Santa is way taller than me.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigdoZY1RFfVqIVc0w5MwaGGKyaoGEB2Mxw2UNrYBmWjtfNjWpeBI2KIg7VtnS4JVE_6HaxEa4kKa6c634OE14OQhPc4fAqv_BrR8wsABeGXDOREyLtW9Wy3Wd2FdYRZ99zEXk7LbusxVKwcBL8ayKihtKgK1wTkcnjHdaAYdXggeGuQZzOR77l_mritV0/s4445/20221001_151036.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4445" data-original-width="2695" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigdoZY1RFfVqIVc0w5MwaGGKyaoGEB2Mxw2UNrYBmWjtfNjWpeBI2KIg7VtnS4JVE_6HaxEa4kKa6c634OE14OQhPc4fAqv_BrR8wsABeGXDOREyLtW9Wy3Wd2FdYRZ99zEXk7LbusxVKwcBL8ayKihtKgK1wTkcnjHdaAYdXggeGuQZzOR77l_mritV0/s320/20221001_151036.jpg" width="194" /></a></div><p>He had seen a lot of Christmasses before he came to live at my house about twelve years ago, and needed quite a bit of tender loving care. He is one of my all-time favourites, and has a lovely face. Usually at Christmas they reign over the sitting room but they have come down to my loungeroom, because the sitting room is a Christmas-free zone this year. These Santas are all about 90cm (3') tall. I found him abandoned in a park and didn't have to think too hard about giving him a home. </span></div><p><br /></p><p>This year I have put a lot of my vintage Santas, and a few other special Santas in a display cupboard in the loungeroom, and I have set up my small collection of Jim Shore Heartwood Creek Santas on top of the cupboard.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh04PB6z91033yR1Xk4fUH6NwClbhWUfif-GQaSjXcodhOkBTr6mN7kC654bVAqJ7Nr6Rgtfo0LhDjpXNeRPIJnHiqB3Tk1brI0ydNPS3n75Sfw8Z4xAZg9Nyb8thjQ-fbC4KocZnQ4zqtLD6ejDM9lvHtcuOuHQYfu7eIa1vYgZ5-Jk4G5vJKE2lcUb70/s3581/20231116_173838.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3581" data-original-width="3163" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh04PB6z91033yR1Xk4fUH6NwClbhWUfif-GQaSjXcodhOkBTr6mN7kC654bVAqJ7Nr6Rgtfo0LhDjpXNeRPIJnHiqB3Tk1brI0ydNPS3n75Sfw8Z4xAZg9Nyb8thjQ-fbC4KocZnQ4zqtLD6ejDM9lvHtcuOuHQYfu7eIa1vYgZ5-Jk4G5vJKE2lcUb70/s320/20231116_173838.jpg" width="283" /></a></div><p>I could talk about these Santas for days, but I will spare you that. Suffice to say I could tell you where and how I obtained each one, and that each one is very special to me. All of these Santas started out with other families, and I wonder about the stories they could tell if only they had the gift of speech. Not all my Santas are in perfect condition, but that's OK with me. They don't have to be perfect to be loved in this house.</p><p><br /></p><p>I hope you and your loved ones have a happy Christmas and a healthy and contented 2024.</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Elfiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15547408590413899108noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7496525000310656239.post-16763197336104486622023-09-20T23:10:00.003-07:002023-09-20T23:11:32.763-07:00A batch of Angels, and a few little finishes.I have been very slack this year. The days are just slipping away and I think I've missed many of the reporting days, for both the the Smalls and the Gifted Gorgeousness SALs. My RA has become active, and that has slowed down my productivity. I was very lucky to be in remission since August 2022, when I had my last breast cancer surgery. So I have started back on my medications, and hope they will kick in soon.<div><div><br /></div><div>These are the ornaments I have stitched and finished since my last blog post. The Smalls Report is hosted by Mary at <a href="http://marysthread.com">Mary's Thread.</a></p><p>These are the Smalls I stitched and finished this month. The 15th of each month is the reporting date for Jo's Gifted Gorgeousness SAL, hosted on <a href="http://serendipitousstitching.blogspot.com">Serendipitous Stitching.</a> We can include in our GG reports anything stitched to be gifted, or stitched with gifted supplies.</p><p><br /></p><p>I received a lovely surprise gift this month. A friend gave me this lovely stitched and framed L&L Angel of Mercy, which she found in a charity shop. The stitcher didn't sign or date it, but I can tell from the framer's stamp on the back that it was framed about 25 years ago. It's not a good photo, unfortunately. It looks much better than the photo. I found a great spot for it on the wall right next to my recliner. I feel very honoured to have been gifted this lovely angel.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioa6S09o9xX-7VaATlBZt9R9Md_l2H1eYEiFMOCfBDIDwj2pO18TMkdSd3ynqK_1IlLlUnakDTG30wvD36nLefukYVnQ4FpEb47pH2m3RmYvEVyoQ8kbvqC_QB12m64BFVVLUMmCMIiFuJG4KRpSbuHuRu5_WdItyveXPnllhv4_oS_afCjUbFhDeOAek/s3090/20230619_104858.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2962" data-original-width="3090" height="307" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioa6S09o9xX-7VaATlBZt9R9Md_l2H1eYEiFMOCfBDIDwj2pO18TMkdSd3ynqK_1IlLlUnakDTG30wvD36nLefukYVnQ4FpEb47pH2m3RmYvEVyoQ8kbvqC_QB12m64BFVVLUMmCMIiFuJG4KRpSbuHuRu5_WdItyveXPnllhv4_oS_afCjUbFhDeOAek/s320/20230619_104858.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p>I have stitched a few Christmas ornaments in the past month, starting with these four sleigh-themed ones. My partner lost the cancer battle at the very end of April, after putting up a very good fight, and there has been so much to cope with. I'm finding the older I get the harder it us for me to adapt to changes but when I looked at the calendar and saw I'd just missed the GG reporting date of the 15th of the month, it prompted me to take action. As always, the GG SAL is hosted by Jo at <a href="http://serendipitousstitching.blogspot.com">Serendipitous Stitching.</a> Anything stitched with gifted supplies, or stitched to be gifted, qualifies for inclusion.</p><p><br /></p><p>My last GG report was for February, so I will put in pics of the things I have stitched since then. This year my 12 Days of Christmas project is Jim Shore's very colourful set. Initially, my plan was to stitch one day per month, but I am notoriously bad at following plans. I had finished Days 1 to 6 by the February GG report. Days 7 to 9 are now also finished.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjY4ITAwql0Tj1tbfhvOSBWulS_L2toZkNpdfPJO6EtxEcJ65-DPpFSnjtzTwfFkb0gc7gPCzxst-UhN6dHB5zZndS5K_oumqXwka7wrR58_rTEabK6-rgwqQt2tIgw6rLkY79hrMq9sxpvYJka-w30cOT4XmXAKX12OQ6-RdjxuUhstZR3-XguqGSB/s3212/20230330_200326.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2052" data-original-width="3212" height="204" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjY4ITAwql0Tj1tbfhvOSBWulS_L2toZkNpdfPJO6EtxEcJ65-DPpFSnjtzTwfFkb0gc7gPCzxst-UhN6dHB5zZndS5K_oumqXwka7wrR58_rTEabK6-rgwqQt2tIgw6rLkY79hrMq9sxpvYJka-w30cOT4XmXAKX12OQ6-RdjxuUhstZR3-XguqGSB/s320/20230330_200326.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQlWz8RBs65UTpgYJOYZVB5WurCSX9_JbI3zpe_-MhpDPZqK_EoizcU2TJXDPaIrLoGveHOqAx-VWDjWw4zeQRXSFXjU-OZKcuUjs6KMcMw4N7Q_YOmRbsEihjfQWGwsg7hS36BYMIgtwoPMGRBawG2P00B7DF_wP5hybpwsaOV-7xWUgn2giab9tK/s2038/20230515_224107.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2038" data-original-width="1714" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQlWz8RBs65UTpgYJOYZVB5WurCSX9_JbI3zpe_-MhpDPZqK_EoizcU2TJXDPaIrLoGveHOqAx-VWDjWw4zeQRXSFXjU-OZKcuUjs6KMcMw4N7Q_YOmRbsEihjfQWGwsg7hS36BYMIgtwoPMGRBawG2P00B7DF_wP5hybpwsaOV-7xWUgn2giab9tK/s320/20230515_224107.jpg" width="269" /></a></div><p>And I am currently stitching the border on Day 10. Anything stitched using gifted supplies, or stitched to be gifted, qualifies for inclusion in the GG report. Pretty much all of my stitching supplies are gifted to me, so most of my stitching meets the GG requirements.</p><p><br /></p><p>I decided to stitch Jim Shore's 12 Day set for myself this year. So far I have completed the first 6 Days. I stitched them 1 over 1 on 20 count fabric, and omitted the beads and charms. At about 5" (13 cm) square, these are larger than my preferred ornament size, but so very pretty.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUElEIeSyLlxOjHh1VqB8R0UxbaU86G-1vSZbICZCHQuXkxRHc47bfEXhgb5RFoOZOAGWnQpEz3Ot2v3wwMIVRf0xMRctK_OYrwhqyiDfZSr0E1rJupFuxH7n_IcUUacJGZh2_zw5O9Xpw4ZJ-JcOEWmmITTDnf-HMmeWqFBRi-DNc4HY-6mrp6Kjl/s3081/20230216_212319.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2560" data-original-width="3081" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUElEIeSyLlxOjHh1VqB8R0UxbaU86G-1vSZbICZCHQuXkxRHc47bfEXhgb5RFoOZOAGWnQpEz3Ot2v3wwMIVRf0xMRctK_OYrwhqyiDfZSr0E1rJupFuxH7n_IcUUacJGZh2_zw5O9Xpw4ZJ-JcOEWmmITTDnf-HMmeWqFBRi-DNc4HY-6mrp6Kjl/s320/20230216_212319.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>I also made another 6 Christmas ornaments, most of which will be gifted at Christmas. I stitched the Snowflake Christmas Tree with the intention of giving it to my oldest nephew and his wife for Christmas 2023. I was amost finished making it up (just 7 beads away from the end) when I discovered I had the backing piece upside down. I'm now going to keep it for myself. I can easily love an imperfect Christmas ornament! The snowflake Christmas tree and deer are adapted from CrossStitchingForFun designs.</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDnzF1EpNR7CbYmpFbgByGg1HcIHmqccF7f4ybYXSvK2XJ0320fsCjf8ocqNobn1J0tCZYUuq6sAaKYTiXtVTZ9M8OrCIIjwPUI3Pb_xhJEu1H7D_XPoHKn2rDqHo7tVd8KQ5K82Ak5wyHQCU2dCb2_wLn6aJCFG0sxWCVsSUJkiDkeIg6vhoLeGZH/s2223/20230213_233745.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2196" data-original-width="2223" height="316" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDnzF1EpNR7CbYmpFbgByGg1HcIHmqccF7f4ybYXSvK2XJ0320fsCjf8ocqNobn1J0tCZYUuq6sAaKYTiXtVTZ9M8OrCIIjwPUI3Pb_xhJEu1H7D_XPoHKn2rDqHo7tVd8KQ5K82Ak5wyHQCU2dCb2_wLn6aJCFG0sxWCVsSUJkiDkeIg6vhoLeGZH/s320/20230213_233745.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Elfiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15547408590413899108noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7496525000310656239.post-72329105667961098932022-12-16T22:44:00.000-08:002022-12-16T22:44:47.034-08:00Gifted Gorgeousness Report for December<p>15th December - it's time for the final Gifted Gorgeousness report for 2022. GG is hosted by Jo at <a href="http://serendipitousstitching.blogspot.com">Serendipitous Stitching.</a></p><p></p><p> I have just a few things to show this month. Nevertheless, here is my contribution to the Advent Blog Hop for the December 11 door. The Advent Blog Hop is hosted by Jo at <a href="http://serendipitousstitching.blogspot.com">Serendipitous Stitching</a>. This blog hop is the one I enjoy most each year. Anyone who knows me will understand why. I am a great fan of Christmas and I do attempt to keep Christmas alive in my house all year. This year Jo has given us two tasks: to show something Christmas or winter related, and to discuss Christmas meal 'afters'.</p><p><br /></p><p>I have lots of my Christmas craft projects which I could show, and all of them are currently on display in the house. There are dozens of framed Christmas cross stitches, literally hundreds of beaded angels, a smaller number of painted Santas, some crocheted angels, a few Christmas trees, and dozens of stitched ornaments. On a whim I have rejected all of those, and selected some wreaths I have made over the years.</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS2pvUPAfyL0CkO4IlSWkCJwPJBriFJnTqPrjfHJKKkHynHezaGhK_5_fSQgStdBwWucT10p_YIJcbQyXt2dEB8VX2M0x9VsrIeosyjU5OP1sVg-zP3QOHhCg5gFteID7-zvNbBJTeZzTRGR7C9d-7gliL7yUZ9zFxA0k2nvMrbVp4ynqTYrYBPlvv/s1794/20221015_100421.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1774" data-original-width="1794" height="316" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS2pvUPAfyL0CkO4IlSWkCJwPJBriFJnTqPrjfHJKKkHynHezaGhK_5_fSQgStdBwWucT10p_YIJcbQyXt2dEB8VX2M0x9VsrIeosyjU5OP1sVg-zP3QOHhCg5gFteID7-zvNbBJTeZzTRGR7C9d-7gliL7yUZ9zFxA0k2nvMrbVp4ynqTYrYBPlvv/s320/20221015_100421.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>This is the first wreath I made, many years ago. I wasn't planning to make a wreath. My task at the time was to reorganise my craft room. In the process I found an old cane wreath base, the foliage from a discarded artificial Christmas tree, and a box of very old Christmas baubles, many of which had lost their hangers. On the spur of the moment I decided to put them all together and with the help of a hot glue gun that is exactly what I did. This wreath is about 60 cm (2ft) in diameter. At present it is hanging in the back stairwell (from kitchen level to laundry).</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_Bsd9DnweXePJBUqQ_o4G_2VJ5a6Dg-apyXjxt5a2FXypUxCqI8GsI8wpDMcUPkW0G_Nn8FCav3Fs2D_FNtVNu8jVw0oB4CrN3qRlK0ZJDCtyuI2bn67iX3QpPAvI_BqFNgAFLqwwgoKbWQ6lR7apP5JASk3tMOvtxLnUXUTEt-GhnmP3d_RQrLZ5/s4236/20221015_100428.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4236" data-original-width="2213" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_Bsd9DnweXePJBUqQ_o4G_2VJ5a6Dg-apyXjxt5a2FXypUxCqI8GsI8wpDMcUPkW0G_Nn8FCav3Fs2D_FNtVNu8jVw0oB4CrN3qRlK0ZJDCtyuI2bn67iX3QpPAvI_BqFNgAFLqwwgoKbWQ6lR7apP5JASk3tMOvtxLnUXUTEt-GhnmP3d_RQrLZ5/s320/20221015_100428.jpg" width="167" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p><br /></p><p>The next wreath is currently hanging at the top of the main stairs. It is larger than the first wreath I made, about 75 cm (2'6") in diameter. My motivation for making this wreath was to reduce the amount of pre-loved Christmas baubles I had collected. I used an old cane wreath for the base.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheadzxSnvK0UCsurGtUa9veFw27EnfIuHE-vMxF-cVYEJAqWY010cJb_ewxbYWRbS4soQiWg0MBZnLgnY6jHqyQz0_o6NLfdoiOEau5-HIuu9doXVVtnxQA5Il5bVZ2LA9rPujJM-vtV8Wq1jLmoU6qwp4I_DC9FW7NfofgG6jBdAxN-XYwTbJr1yv/s2746/20190813_084623.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2746" data-original-width="2593" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheadzxSnvK0UCsurGtUa9veFw27EnfIuHE-vMxF-cVYEJAqWY010cJb_ewxbYWRbS4soQiWg0MBZnLgnY6jHqyQz0_o6NLfdoiOEau5-HIuu9doXVVtnxQA5Il5bVZ2LA9rPujJM-vtV8Wq1jLmoU6qwp4I_DC9FW7NfofgG6jBdAxN-XYwTbJr1yv/s320/20190813_084623.jpg" width="302" /></a></div><br /><br /><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGL_q8LHEcMXecV_U4hQh2qEMq0uHrSWnKEPQjVm_zBc0JCUO9hgI112BqhR5OwgcLznpNIDO1zWNu2JFM1Wrl8uzUPEGJN8surqq56-BNU59ZPz30k-NH3d-H1z-H5s2JqC6grFcPF1dKOidjxX338juDlsMJzzIW0hWOkSt96_VnImgOTic7Mh2S/s3485/20221017_101709.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3485" data-original-width="3468" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGL_q8LHEcMXecV_U4hQh2qEMq0uHrSWnKEPQjVm_zBc0JCUO9hgI112BqhR5OwgcLznpNIDO1zWNu2JFM1Wrl8uzUPEGJN8surqq56-BNU59ZPz30k-NH3d-H1z-H5s2JqC6grFcPF1dKOidjxX338juDlsMJzzIW0hWOkSt96_VnImgOTic7Mh2S/s320/20221017_101709.jpg" width="318" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p>My third wreath is my favourite, and my latest. For us, Christmas is in summer, and it's usual to have temperatures hovering around 40 deg C (over 100 deg F). While some (mainly older) people do the full cooked Christmas meal thing, the majority (including my extended family), will opt for seafood, cold meats, and salads for Christmas lunch, which in our family would usually be served around 2pm. When it comes to 'afters', it's anything goes. </p><p>My contribution is always gingerbread babies. I usually bake 4 or 5 batches in December, and each batch makes about 140 gingerbreads, which I package up in bags and tins for distribution to family and friends. I also make a double batch of hazlenut biscotti because my youngest sister loves them. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOkNVnTH9tVnea7R2w9ThSl7nWtm3PiWi16Hqu7iqDnRxgTFTvwKtzeX8h2qZZ8aOAa5881gLsk8X5zzmfcIBASncmqwh5KFVzsxRf51s_kS2vicU7Nbs9ZE5BP2eWfs62AeDGLK7S8CVIMRpzFTZrZTTsykbgjqN4f9lnR4EZ8ydNMTULgpUU8mjM/s4320/FB_IMG_1633591288446.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3368" data-original-width="4320" height="249" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOkNVnTH9tVnea7R2w9ThSl7nWtm3PiWi16Hqu7iqDnRxgTFTvwKtzeX8h2qZZ8aOAa5881gLsk8X5zzmfcIBASncmqwh5KFVzsxRf51s_kS2vicU7Nbs9ZE5BP2eWfs62AeDGLK7S8CVIMRpzFTZrZTTsykbgjqN4f9lnR4EZ8ydNMTULgpUU8mjM/s320/FB_IMG_1633591288446.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>Usually the 'afters' would appear 2 or 3 hours after Christmas lunch finished and often would be the last food of the day. Our Christmas sweets table will always offer warm Christmas Pudding (made each year by my Irish-born brother-in-law using his late mother's recipe) served with a choice of brandy custard, vanilla custard, icecream and whipped cream; a large bowl of sherry trifle (layered sherry drizzled cake, chopped jelly, custard, fruit & whipped cream) made to my late mother's recipe; shortbread, biscotti, and gingerbread biscuits; and a large fresh tropical fruit platter. It sounds like a lot of food, and it is, but we have quite a large extended family, and there are always lots of leftovers, which get packaged up and sent home with family groups.</p><p>Merry Christmas!</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Elfiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15547408590413899108noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7496525000310656239.post-34077409912854662912022-11-25T00:07:00.004-08:002022-11-25T00:10:09.244-08:00Smalls Report for November<p> I have six little finishes to show today. The days are just slipping away way too quickly. Gifted Gorgeousness is hosted by Jo at <a href="http://serendipitousstitching.blogspot.com">Serendipitous Stitching</a> on the 15th of each month, and pretty much anything stitched with gifted supplies, or destined to be gifted, qualifies for inclusion. </p><p>I've not got much to show this month. I used to have a reliable memory for details like that, but I suspect those days are long gone now. Anyway, here goes. Mary at <a href="http://marysthread.com">Mary's Thread</a> hosts the Smalls SAL, and has all the details.</p><p>It's been a quiet stitching month, as I've had lots of medical stuff going on. My routine annual breast cancer check in late August didn't go quite to plan. The breast that had the cancer 4 years ago was fine, but they found a new lesion in the other breast. I had it removed early in September, and this week I got the biopsy results, which weren't great, but certainly could have been much worse. The next step is a course of 20 sessions of radiation, probably starting mid October. The timing is not great, as my partner is battling a terminal cancer at present, and is not feeling so good. I haven't picked up my cross stitch at all in September. In the last two weeks of August I finished up a few things I had stitched earlier.</p><p> </p><p>These two snowflake Christmas Trees (CrosstitchingForFun on eBay) are for my youngest sister and her son. The trees are actually the same size, but I used a smaller frame for the one that has to travel half way across Australia. I really enjoyed stitching this design. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxr1JLjgY9xVWvePggh35wHVM-_fRV18wb3geKOVglCZ4shYRMg26fbL9n2osOZDMlA7czGikgpI4o5pTSd29ZTDJIsLUzGtoZ4PxoJBbcjnPkbPZAJJG65HCh-d0SwqkpRAM1NMWVR_k3RGRTIoj3PULDrT0Ufp1t8g9deDNaUcYKstQLSww1fGn4/s3468/20220819_222138.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2376" data-original-width="3468" height="219" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxr1JLjgY9xVWvePggh35wHVM-_fRV18wb3geKOVglCZ4shYRMg26fbL9n2osOZDMlA7czGikgpI4o5pTSd29ZTDJIsLUzGtoZ4PxoJBbcjnPkbPZAJJG65HCh-d0SwqkpRAM1NMWVR_k3RGRTIoj3PULDrT0Ufp1t8g9deDNaUcYKstQLSww1fGn4/s320/20220819_222138.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div><p>This little cat ( a Barbara Monk design, floss colours changed) is for a cat-obsessed member of my extended family.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg16K2UyV_Q-lMGqqH9nPVkweNiKnTfgSAxaNtvXJERyuO9TxOgFbkmY_JL-radfYAlkTFCjH7G1vrzGOU3RbBYXZGeUI5GxWa9w0biCKF5U1mQ0mU3CFQ7MUYgjv_taE7wIfFh0m8qQzeflfyxnh2XIw6pVsd4hfY4TsqyW0yjKwmM-olxHu-XV8si/s2021/20220818_233447.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2021" data-original-width="1560" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg16K2UyV_Q-lMGqqH9nPVkweNiKnTfgSAxaNtvXJERyuO9TxOgFbkmY_JL-radfYAlkTFCjH7G1vrzGOU3RbBYXZGeUI5GxWa9w0biCKF5U1mQ0mU3CFQ7MUYgjv_taE7wIfFh0m8qQzeflfyxnh2XIw6pVsd4hfY4TsqyW0yjKwmM-olxHu-XV8si/s320/20220818_233447.jpg" width="247" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p>I finished up Days 5 & 6 of Shannon Christine's 12 Days of Christmas set ( stitched for me with gifted supplies).</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhATZmaEPeiADcCs6WKeq42eTPYov233E44RZQS3TebHvRWqage5bpJzuvahEkd8VmlhXYTt9kyiu66bl8-MSsDJqJG_NjhVr4LJCFpVb5ybN7XT1EPXur8jq1E6q-dH66nIlTnP1MxlSBm4wGHwnJ5Rjzk2J4EAah1Rw3u6Kdif5LCzGlCIyILOtrT/s2252/20220818_233423.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1520" data-original-width="2252" height="216" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhATZmaEPeiADcCs6WKeq42eTPYov233E44RZQS3TebHvRWqage5bpJzuvahEkd8VmlhXYTt9kyiu66bl8-MSsDJqJG_NjhVr4LJCFpVb5ybN7XT1EPXur8jq1E6q-dH66nIlTnP1MxlSBm4wGHwnJ5Rjzk2J4EAah1Rw3u6Kdif5LCzGlCIyILOtrT/s320/20220818_233423.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p>I made another little Santa stocking for the older cousin of the twins for whom I made little Santa stockings a month or so ago. GG is hosted by Jo at <a href="http://serendipitousstitching.blogspot.com">Serendipitous Stitching</a> on the 15th of each month. Anything stitched with gifted supplies, or stitched to be gifted, qualifies for inclusion.</p><p><br /></p><p>First up, Unicorn Kiss from Belle & Boo, which I stitched for my greatniece Sarah's fifth birthday. Sarah has an enduring fascination with unicorns, and when I saw this design I immediately wanted to stitch it for her. I did change floss colours to bring it in line with Sarah's preferences. I also omitted some of the backstitching. I framed it in a purchased frame with a 20cm x 25 cm (8" x 10") mount. I'm not ready for it! Strictly speaking, I've missed the Gifted Gorgeousness reporting day, but fortunately for me, in most of the world it's still the 15th July, so I will just sneak in my report. GG is hosted by Jo at <a href="http://serendipitousstitching.blogspot.com">Serendipitous Stitching</a>.</p><p>I stitched tiny Christmas stocking ornaments for the 6 year old twins of a new friend. If you've visited here before you will recognise the Santa stockings, as I have stitched many over the last few years. The chart I started with is Kooler Design Studio's 'Littlest Stockings', charted for plastic canvas. I smoothed out all the edges, made a few changes to the face, stitched a 'cuff', and added a back to make a real little stocking, just big enough to hold one of my beaded Christmas angels.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4-zPM4CYHnKlDN-YdSd4wGWiKsmlK8kuG572ZEHD43YzPkhMYyN7tVaydQmtdkmvywqSVYtAnB2C1mSm4owRduQlaOCytjZ6em3Y3aH6gn7ANy8uur5s12MjxKkyz8FPvvjYexNCagyg4IGuHFQ1JMjepFKCL2Z95d9TorfDOUsk5jpEk8HMJPhKV/s2305/20220705_225526.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2061" data-original-width="2305" height="286" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4-zPM4CYHnKlDN-YdSd4wGWiKsmlK8kuG572ZEHD43YzPkhMYyN7tVaydQmtdkmvywqSVYtAnB2C1mSm4owRduQlaOCytjZ6em3Y3aH6gn7ANy8uur5s12MjxKkyz8FPvvjYexNCagyg4IGuHFQ1JMjepFKCL2Z95d9TorfDOUsk5jpEk8HMJPhKV/s320/20220705_225526.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p>In June I joined Shannon Christine's Christmas Club, and stitched Days 1 and 2 of her 12 Days of Christmas set. It's been that sort of month!</p><p>I have joined Shannon Christine's Christmas Club, which provides two 12 Days of Christmas charts each month June to November. I decided to try to stitch and finish each set of 2 ornaments before the next set of charts arrives. So far I'm on track. My partner is off for another brain MRI looking for more metastatic cancers; it's my sister Gayle's birthday; and it's time for the monthly Gifted Gorgeousness report hosted by Jo at <a href="http://serendipitousstitching.blogspot.com">Serendipitous Stitching</a> .</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p>It's a short GG report from me, though I did make up all the ornaments work basket at the end of May. The photos are in my last blog post. In June I have stitched and made up three little Santa Christmas ornaments. The designer is Donna Vermillion Giampa, who designed the most gorgeous Santa faces. I love stitching her Santas, and I have stitched many over the years, all larger than this little set, but the chart for this set made it very hard work. The chart was printed in colour (not my favourite), with lots of duplicated symbols on slightly varying colours, and there were 37 floss colours, if you don't count the Kreinik charted. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgscseveG86uDPzBXUgN8Hzu65IvQkK3sXZYalkTl05d5GBtHMmSFb4tu3gmwTt1HrRgY6gGqvcVRXh0z_FfsBs8alqN-dmSzCMVgZGuq-EluoSoRhVhJtO6XX-eRsRDL5A_qPyBtRursoDh-aVnOlwyheZePuSPEHL__I4YY-08KHJ1YPVVtbJ6FJl/s3085/20220614_004419.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1907" data-original-width="3085" height="198" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgscseveG86uDPzBXUgN8Hzu65IvQkK3sXZYalkTl05d5GBtHMmSFb4tu3gmwTt1HrRgY6gGqvcVRXh0z_FfsBs8alqN-dmSzCMVgZGuq-EluoSoRhVhJtO6XX-eRsRDL5A_qPyBtRursoDh-aVnOlwyheZePuSPEHL__I4YY-08KHJ1YPVVtbJ6FJl/s320/20220614_004419.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p>I have kitted up yet another 12 Days of Christmas set, and am about to start Day 1. I didn't intend to stitch another set, but when I saw Shannon Christine's beautiful 12 Day set I just couldn't stop myself from joining the SAL particularly when I was offered the charts as a birthday gift. I've decided to stitch it on a pale blue fabric, which I already have in my work basket, left over from my last 12 Day set. I am excited to start this set. The floss colours are so pretty.</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Elfiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15547408590413899108noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7496525000310656239.post-10941492395479301802022-05-26T17:55:00.003-07:002022-05-26T17:55:44.543-07:00Smalls SAL, May<p> </p><p>Very soon May 2022 will be just a memory. This year is slipping away at an alarming rate. I have a few Smalls 'finishes' to show this month. Mary from <a href="http://marysthread.com">Mary's Thread</a> is our host for the Smalls SAL, on the final Friday of each month.</p><p><br /></p><p>I spent last week finishing off all the stitched designs in my work basket - well, all the ornament sized ones. I still have three waiting for framing. </p><p><br /></p><p>I have finished my 12 Days of Christmas set. I stitched mine as individual ornaments, although the designer Barbara Sestok charted it as a single project. I made a few little changes to the charted design, including removing the charted borders, and moving the numbers. I made a few floss colour changes too.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJnPzYovs8TGbWs8vRqteJxwa4Hd3zfCtinx8gqkpEjPeyviva4OPR1Tm30xy8OqPhf79IP1q9zvskAIJPcEKVsSzkn_CnSaD4HVsUOw_Qe-_e7eE8KoTqz1Wqo3Rln_OKkkeGnU86RaDdGLaRkx7m9CsNqlDwLEejfwT5uGTejQUvXN5PG-iN7ZYd/s2882/20220520_233438.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2882" data-original-width="2511" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJnPzYovs8TGbWs8vRqteJxwa4Hd3zfCtinx8gqkpEjPeyviva4OPR1Tm30xy8OqPhf79IP1q9zvskAIJPcEKVsSzkn_CnSaD4HVsUOw_Qe-_e7eE8KoTqz1Wqo3Rln_OKkkeGnU86RaDdGLaRkx7m9CsNqlDwLEejfwT5uGTejQUvXN5PG-iN7ZYd/s320/20220520_233438.jpg" width="279" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p>And I also finished up these other ornaments, all of which will be Christmas gifts.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEit74Nnl3A2mUgHWUNERy65IiQHjK8MgMHA3uubjnpD1MBbyDJ5bPcAMC4nOB-FYzqMeS7kL7slQwkFeDOHOpfowWTWc5cyyAAGx3UZOeD9dSAsBHMFKw5Fd6rPP1orcbOmpHpmZPTab_s2MAocZuQY2DItR0_B7b7JaxWk_ORO7MMO8c3233DUFZCa/s2381/20220522_160532.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2381" data-original-width="2283" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEit74Nnl3A2mUgHWUNERy65IiQHjK8MgMHA3uubjnpD1MBbyDJ5bPcAMC4nOB-FYzqMeS7kL7slQwkFeDOHOpfowWTWc5cyyAAGx3UZOeD9dSAsBHMFKw5Fd6rPP1orcbOmpHpmZPTab_s2MAocZuQY2DItR0_B7b7JaxWk_ORO7MMO8c3233DUFZCa/s320/20220522_160532.jpg" width="307" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">That's all I have to show this month. And now it's May 18. How did that happen! I certainly can't blame my stitching for my tardiness in writing my GG report. It's not been a very productive month. I have little to show this time. </p><p><br /></p><p>I did stitch some little angels which will be Christmas gifts for a cousin and her 4 grand-daughters. Jo at <a href="http://serendipitousstitching.blogspot.com ">Serendipitous Stitching</a> is our host for both. My Blog Hop entry is just under this GG Report. This month all my stitching qualifies for inclusion in the GG report, since it was all done using gifted supplies, and most of the stitched items will be gifted. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><p></p><p>I found a chart I really like, called Snowflake Merry Christmas Tree, on Etsy. The designer is a Ukranian lady, who stitches under the CrossStitchForFun label. I have stitched it four times now - twice on 28 count 2 over 2 ( top 2), and twice on 22 count 1 over 1 (bottom 2). The larger ones will fit on a standard 10" x 8" (25cm x 20cm) mount in a larger frame, and the smaller ones measure 5" x 4" (12.5 cm x 10cm) and will be made up into large ornaments.
