Here's my Santa Advent tree - on December 7 if I've counted the Santas correctly. This tree is one of my favourite Christmas things. I made it in 1998, and I have since made lots of them for family and friends.
Here's my basket of Advent gifts - I get one each day from Dec 1 to Dec 24.
Here's DP's Advent gifts. I bought this Advent gift tree in Hong Kong in about 1990, and it's been part of my Christmas since then.
and this is one of my absolute favourites - my African Nativity. It's made of terracotta. I've had these out on display each Christmas for the past 20 yrs.
Oh I love the gift tradition! You made your advent tree!!!! I would love to know what it is made of and how you did it. What a special heirloom!
ReplyDeleteLove your Nativity Scent and those Advent trees are so pretty. Looks like you have some nice gifts to open too.
ReplyDeleteThe Advent tree is just a tree-shape cut from a sheet of plywood, and painted both sides. My tree is 2 ft tall, but I've made some much smaller. The stand is a circle of thicker wood with a groove cut in it to stand the tree in. I painted my stand red with gold border and highlights. I painted 24 wooden stars of different sizes red with gold highlights on one side, and painted a Santa on the other side. Then I drilled a hole in the top and threaded a ribbon through. I put 24 little gold nails into the tree, and tied a star Santa to each one, so that I could flip the star over. I start with all the stars showing, and from Dec 1 turn one each day to show the Santa. When all 24 Santas are showing, I know that Santa Claus is on his way. After Christmas I take the tree out of its stand and it then is quite easy to store.
