Come visit with me as I stitch and craft my way from one Christmas to the next - I like to have Christmas projects close by me all year. I have a particular fondness for Santas and Angels. If you have the time, leave a comment so I know you've visited.

TUSAL - a new year, a fresh jar

Here is my completed 2009 TUSAL jar. s you can see, it's pretty full. The lovely pink and white threads at the top of the jar are from the sleeves of my Angel of Grace. and here is my empty jar, ready to start the 2010 TUSAL.
I'm using the same 3 litre jar as I used last year. The plastic bag next to the jar holds all my 2009 stitching waste. It weighs a little over 300 grams - about 10 ounces, I was considering some use for my TUSAL jar contents, but finally decided not to hang onto it. So, it's final trip will be into my garbage can tomorrow morning.

TUSAL

My jar has made it to the end of the TUSAL year, and I still have some room to spare. I did have to press the contents down quite severely, cause at one stage it looked like the jar wasn't going to make it, and I did have to upgrade to a larger jar mid-way through the year. Since my last photo I've collected lots of white green and red threads and several broken needles from Angel of Hope; blues, reds and white toned threads and more broken needles from Jolly Old Fellow; and lots of Christmas coloured threads from the ornaments I've made. All in all, the TUSAL jar holds the discards from the 89 projects I've worked on this year (2 WIPs and 87 finished projects) and I have really quite enjoyed collecting all this stitching waste. I'm sure my stitching corner has been much cleaner and more organised this year as a result of the TUSAL. I haven't yet decided what to do with the jar contents - it seems so wasteful just to discard them now. It's highly likely that I'm going to continue collecting my threads next year - I've got quite fond of my TUSAL container over the year.

Totally Useless SAL - October

I've had to press down the contents of my jar - it was looking quite full before I did that, but now there's plenty of room again. You can see that most of the threads I've been working with in the past month are in the white-cream range. They were from the skirt of my Angel. There are a few reds and greens from the floral trim, some gold metallics from the Angel's harp, and some blues from the Angel's trailing scarf. There are also a few broken needles, an empty needle packet, and quite a few floss tags added since last pic. It's hard to believe that there are just 2 more TUSAL days this year. The year has just flown by.

Totally Useless SAL - a little late

Better late than never, as my mother used to say - so here's my Totally Useless SAL jar. The keen observer will notice that my jar has grown - both the contents and the jar, actually. I had to move up to a 3 litre jar, from the 2 litre jar I started the SAL with. If my maths are correct (and it's a long time since high school for me) my 3 litre jar is equivalent to a US 3 quart jar. I tried not to mix up the layers when I transferred the contents to their new home, but there was a bit of movement so I just pressed it down as much as I could and moved on. In the last month I have added the floss bands from kitting up my Angel of Hope, the waste threads from stitching the Angel (mostly whites and blues) and threads from a couple of little Christmas designs I stitched in the past few days. I popped the jar onto a trunk to take the pic, and I so liked the contrast between the TUSAL jar and the old earthenware bottles and toothpaste containers that I decided to leave the pic as it was rather than edit out the nn-TUSAL bits.
I'm going to pop around to TUSAL participant sites now, to check on progress.

Totally Useless SAL

Here is my TUSAL jar at the end of my stitching session tonight. It has been well pressed down, and there's still plenty of room left - so maybe it will make it to the end of the year. The top layer of purple (DMC 208 and 210) and pink threads are from the two angel ornaments I just finished, and beneath that you can see my HAED sky colours, and below that the greens and reds from the holly sprig on Santa's hat, and the whites and off-whites of the fur on Santa's hat.

I'm looking forward to checking out all the TUSAL progress this month.
